Compare

IPL or BBL. Are they really different?

Who tends to ask this

You have seen both names for treating brown spots and redness, and you are wondering whether one is clearly better. I offer Lumecca, which is a type of IPL. I do not offer BBL, which is another brand of the same general technology.

The real difference

They are close cousins. Both use broadband light to target brown spots, sun damage, redness, and uneven tone. Both are usually planned as a series, both tend to work best on lighter to medium skin tones, and both have minimal downtime, though treated spots may temporarily darken and flake. The differences tend to come down to the specific device and, more importantly, the provider's settings and experience, rather than a dramatic gap between the categories.

Where each one tends to shine

Lumecca (IPL)

A strong, widely used light treatment for color concerns. What I offer and use.

BBL

Another well-regarded brand of the same kind of technology. Offered by other providers.

Worth knowing

Because these are so similar, the more useful question is usually not IPL versus BBL, but whether a light treatment fits your skin tone and concern at all, and who is running the device. Neither is right for every skin tone, and results vary.

Wondering if a light treatment is right for your skin?

The brand matters less than candidacy and the hands running it. Bring your concern and I will tell you whether Lumecca fits, or whether something else does.
